REGISTER: PHMSA Public Meeting on CO2 Pipelines (May 31-June 1)

The U.S. Dept. of Transportation’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) has announced that it will hold a CO2 pipeline public meeting in Des Moines May 31st-June 1.

PHMSA rarely holds such public meetings, so this event is a prime opportunity for impacted landowners and advocates to show up (either in-person, or virtually) to speak out and make their concerns known — as the federal agency has undertaken a new rulemaking process to “implement new measures to strengthen its safety oversight of carbon dioxide (CO2) pipelines around the country and protect communities from dangerous pipeline failures.”

The public hearing in Des Moines May 31-June 1 will be a crucial early step in this rulemaking process, which is not expected to be concluded or release any findings until late 2024.
