Pipeline To Nowhere? Understanding the Impacts of Summit’s Pipeline Project

Summit Carbon Solutions has once again adjusted the scope of its proposed multi-state carbon dioxide (CO2) pipeline project.

The company eliminated four ethanol plant partners, and approximately 200 miles of route within the state of Iowa — for the time being — but now says it plans to route its pipeline through Nebraska into Wyoming.

Up to now, Summit had planned to route its risky CO2 pipeline from Iowa into South Dakota and North Dakota — but strong public opposition and landowner organizing in those states have made that route all but impossible.

But, the fight is far from over. If one foot of Summit’s pipeline gets built in Iowa, it won’t stop there. Summit’s proposed changes show that they are desperately trying to make its failing plans work. While publicly stating the pipeline is now intended to route through Nebraska to Wyoming for both sequestration and use in enhanced oil recovery, behind the scenes, Summit is still pursuing efforts to cross South Dakota to an end point in North Dakota.

It is more important than ever that we keep exposing Summit’s project for what it really is – a greedy scam.
