Privacy Policy

(Last updated: Nov. 11, 2013)

Bold Alliance (“we”, “our” or “BA”) respects and is committed to protecting the privacy of users of our website located at www.PipelineFighters.org (the “Site”). This Privacy Policy explains how we collect information about you through the Site and how we use such information. In order to fully understand BN’s privacy practices, you are encouraged to read this Privacy Policy. This Policy applies to information we collect about you on or through the Site. This Privacy Policy covers the two types of information we gather on the Site, personal and aggregated. The term “personal information” refers to data you voluntarily provide to us in connection with your use of the Site and services that identify you, such as your name, physical address and/or e-mail address. The term “aggregated data” refers to general, abstracted information regarding visitors and users of our Site, including traffic patterns, number of visits to certain pages, visits from other websites or to third-party websites linked to our Site, use of particular services or features on the Site or on other websites reached through our Site.

Data Collection and Use

  • Some of our events require you to register. We ask you for some personal information (such as your name, email address, mailing address, and phone number) and we will use that information to provide the service. In the event you choose to make a donation online to PipelineFighters.org, we use trusted third party service providers who process and maintain your credit card information in encrypted form on secure servers.
  • When we require personal information, we will inform you about the types of information we collect and how we may use it. We hope this will help you make an informed decision about sharing your personal information with us.
  • For petitions and surveys signed or completed by you, we may treat your name, city, state, and comments as public information. For example, we may provide compilations of petitions, with users comments, to public officials, but we will not disclose your street address, email address or phone number, without your prior consent. We may also make your comments, along with your first name, city, state, and country, available to the press and public online.
    • The Site enables you to send individual emails through the Site in your name, and in connection with such emails, we may disclose your email address as the return address to public officials. If you write letters or emails to newspapers using the Site, we may disclose your email address and full name and contact information as part of the submission.
    • We collect aggregated data your browser makes available whenever you visit a website. This log information includes your Internet Protocol address, browser type, browser language, the date and time of your query and one or more cookies that may uniquely identify your browser. We use this information to operate, develop and improve our services.
    • We may analyze web logs in order to understand traffic patterns and determine whether there are problems with the Site. We may also use embedded images in emails to track open rates for emailings, so that we can tell which email communications appeal most to users of our Site and services.

Cookies

  • Upon your first visit to the Site, a cookie is sent to your computer that uniquely identifies your browser. A “cookie” is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your computer when you visit a website. We use cookies to collect and maintain aggregate information about Site use, to improve the quality of our services and to better understand how people interact with our Site. We do this by storing user preferences in cookies and by tracking user trends and patterns of how people search. We use this aggregated data only in the ways explained in this Privacy Policy.
  • Most browsers are initially set up to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, some the Site’s features or services may not function properly without cookies.

Third-Party Advertising and Links to Other Websites

Our site may include third-party advertising and links to other websites. We do not provide any personal information to these advertisers or third-party websites.

These third-party websites and advertisers, or Internet advertising companies working on their behalf, sometimes use technology to send (or “serve”) the advertisements that appear on our Sites directly to your browser. They automatically receive your IP address when this happens. They may also use cookies, JavaScript, web beacons (also known as action tags or single-pixel gifs), and other technologies to measure the effectiveness of their ads and to personalize advertising content. We do not have access to or control over cookies or other features that they may use, and the information practices of these advertisers and third-party websites are not covered by this Privacy Policy. Please contact them directly for more information about their privacy practices. In addition, the Network Advertising Initiative offers useful information about Internet advertising companies (also called “ad networks” or “network advertisers”), including information about how to opt-out of their information collection.

Information Sharing

  • We may share the information you submit in connection with requests for our services with our related entities in order to provide you with a seamless experience on our Site and to provide and improve the quality of our services.
  • We do not rent or sell your personal information to other companies, organizations or individuals.
  • We may share your personal information in the following limited circumstances:
    • If we have your consent.
    • We may provide such information to trusted business partners for the purpose of processing personally identifiable information on our behalf.
    • To work collaboratively with coalitions that have the same or similar goals as BA.
    • In order to fulfill the services you request or complete the actions you have engaged in on the Site, such as to deliver petitions and show support for initiatives.
    • If we are required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (1) conform to the requirements of applicable law or comply with legal process served on BA; (2) protect and defend the rights or property of BA; (3) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of any person; or (4) fix or debug problems with the BA software/service.
    • In the event of a transfer of ownership of PipelineFighters.org, such as acquisition by or merger with another organization, we will provide notice before any personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy, and allow you the opportunity to opt out of such a transfer.
  • We may share aggregated information with others, such as the number of members who are participating in local groups.

Information Security

  • We take reasonable security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of personal information.
  • We restrict access to your personal information to our employees, related entities, business partners, service providers and coalition members who need to know such information in order to operate, develop or improve the Site and/or to provide our services. When your personal information is shared, it is subject to agreements that oblige those parties to process such information only on our instructions and in compliance with this Privacy Policy, and the information is protected by appropriate confidentiality and security measures.

Children’s Privacy & Parental Consent

This Site is not designed or intended for use by children under the age of 13. Should we become aware that we inadvertently acquired personal information or other data from users under the age of 13, we will delete the information as soon as possible.

Changes to this Policy

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we post changes to this Privacy Policy, we will revise the “last updated” date at the top of the this page. Changes will always be prospective, not retroactive. Should we make any material changes to this Privacy Policy that alter the use of your personal information, we will notify you of such change by email. In that email, you will be provided with the opportunity to have your information deleted from our database. Prior versions of this policy are archived and are available for you to view.
